STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific softball team (15-7, 0-0 WCC) got another productive outing from
Bethany Hammer in the circle Saturday morning at Christina M. Hixson Softball Park, blanking Sacramento State 3-0 on day two of the Wolf Pack Classic in Reno.
How it Happened
- Hammer improved her record to 4-1 on the year with a complete-game shutout, going seven innings with six strikeouts while yielding just two base hits.
- Her two hits allowed came in the first inning, but Pacific's WCC-leading .972 fielding percentage shut down any chance of the Hornets getting on the board first.
- Pacific had an identical bottom of the first, creating a scoring chance with two runners on base on two hits, but the Tigers weren't able to capitalize yet.
- UOP broke through in the bottom of the third with back-to-back RBI doubles from Hanna Krosky and Caitlyn Sung that started with a Jessica Mabrey single and put the Tigers up 2-0.
- The Tigers rounded out their scoring an inning later, as Bradi Kooyman scored unearned with Talli Shepherd advancing to second after reaching on a throwing error.
- Hammer retired the Hornets in order in the fifth, then dominated from there to finish out the win.
What Coach Kolze Said
- "Just an outstanding all-around game. It helps with the tempo Hammer set from the circle. She was completely dominant. I thought we swung the bats really well throughout, but stringing the three hits in a row with two outs from Mabrey, Krosky and Sung for two runs in the third, really raised our confidence. And once again, another outstanding job on defense."
Up Next
- Pacific will close out the Wolf Pack Classic on Sunday with Weber State at 9:00 a.m., following by Sacramento State at 11:30 a.m.
