Game Recap: Softball |

Tigers Split Day One in Reno

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific softball team (14-7, 0-0 WCC) split the first day of the Wolf Pack Invitational Friday afternoon at Christina M. Hixson Softball Park, falling to Weber State 4-2 before coming back for a thrilling 5-4 win over host Nevada.

Game 1: Weber State 4, Pacific 2
  • Pacific got a bit of a wakeup call in the second inning, as Weber State was first on the scoreboard with a leadoff home run.
  • The Tigers were able to tie things up though one inning later, as Madison Kahwaty scored on a Ralene Estrada RBI single up the middle after the Wildcats put a runner on second in their half of the third.
  • Kahwaty ended the first game going 1 for 2 with both runs.
  • Pacific plated another run in the bottom of the sixth on a bases-loaded walk from Caitlyn Sung.
Game 2: Pacific 5, Nevada 4
  • Friday's second game was more of a natural offensive rhythm for the Tigers, who scored four times in the top of the seventh to stun the host Wolf Pack.
  • Talli Shepherd led off the game with a walk and eventually reached third, but was unable to capitalize on the opportunity.
  • Nevada did all of its offensive damage in the first three innings, as momentum shifted dugouts after the third inning with Nevada stranding two runners in the fourth.
  • Pacific capitalized in the top of the fifth after Carly Lucchetti led off the inning with her third triple of the season, later coming home on Bradi Kooyman's single to left.
  • The Tigers saved their best for last with a four-run seventh that got started with Lucchetti singling to second before coming home on a Kahwaty single.
  • Ralene Estrada doubled two right center to tie the game at four before Hanna Krosky broke the deadlock with a single to center that scored Estrada.
  • Bethany Hammer picked up her third win of the year against the Wolf Pack, going six innings with two strikeouts.
What Coach Kolze Said
  • "It was definitely a tale of two games. We didn't do what we needed to do with our opportunities in the first game. In the second game, we did a tremendous job changing our momentum from the third inning on. We carried great at-bats the rest of the way and had multiple hitting stars throughout. Obviously, the hits by Madi, Rae and Hanna were huge in the seventh inning. Bethany Hammer was beyond outstanding in relief as was our defense."
