Tigers Bats, Arms Show in Day Two Sweep

STANFORD, Calif. – The Pacific softball team swept day two of the DeMarini Invitational in impressive fashion on Saturday afternoon, taking down Rhode Island 2-1 for the second day in a row before dismantling Saint Francis by a score of 10-2 at Jill & Boyd Smith Family Stadium.

Game 1: Pacific 2, Rhode Island 1
  • Pacific wasn't able to manufacture a hit until a Hanna Krosky double to center in the second inning, but the wait was worth it.
  • The Tigers scored an inning later on an RBI double to left center from Talli Shepherd, as Madison Kahwaty crossed home for Pacific's first run of the day.
  • Rhode Island manufactured three hits in the following frame, but Krosky shut down the Rams from the circle, yielding just one run and stranding one on base and ended the morning with her first career win in Orange and Black.
  • Kahwaty gave Pacific the lead for good in the fifth inning with a solo home run to left field on an 0-1 pitch.
What Coach Kolze Said
"Absolute great job by our pitching this morning. (Hanna) Krosky was tremendous in her first start of the year and Farrah (Steffany) was great in closing the door. We did a good job at the plate other than with runners on. Also great job by Krosky at the plate as well and (Madison) Kahwaty clutch with the home run."

Game 2: Pacific 10, Saint Francis 2
  • The bats picked up more significantly in the second game on the day, as Pacific put up a five spot in the first inning with RBIs from Krosky, Madeline Domingo (two) and Bradi Kooyman.
  • Myka Sutherlin was once again unstoppable from the circle, fanning Saint Francis in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the first and eventually earning her fifth win of the year.
  • Sutherlin ended with another complete game that included eight strikeouts and just two runs yielded.
  • The Tigers scored in back-to-back innings to bump the lead up to 9-2, all but putting the contest out of reach.
What Coach Kolze Said
"Just a great all around game. We definitely set the tone by starting a five-run rally with two outs and nobody on in the first inning. We had a lot of hitting stars and we got lots of people in the game, which is nice."
