Pacific Caps Off DeMarini Invitational With 7-2 Win

STANFORD, Calif. – The Pacific softball team completed the DeMarini Invitational in style, as the Tigers (12-6, 0-0) kicked off March with a 7-2 win over Saint Francis on Sunday at Jill & Boyd Smith Family Stadium.

How it Happened
  • Pacific scored early and often in the final game from the South Bay, putting leadoff runners on in two of the first three innings. The first of those three, Madison Kahwaty, crossed home first for Pacific in the first inning after Hanna Krosky reached first on an error from second base.
  • The Tigers kept capitalizing from that point on as Caitlyn Sung turned the Tigers' very next at-bat into another run, reaching on a fielder's choice by the shortstop. Crossing the plate on Sung's reach was Talli Shepherd, who had a 3-for-4 outing on the tournament's final day with two runs.
  • UOP tacked on the runs in four of the seven innings on the day, including a fourth-inning solo home run to right field from Ralene Estrada that tied Jessica Mabrey for the team lead. Estrada and Mabrey have now each gone yard twice this season.
  • Vanessa Strong took control from the circle while retiring nine of her first 12 batters faced. Strong, who earned her third win on the season, ended her day with five strikeouts in six innings of work.
  • Saint Francis rallied for a run in the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-2, but Bethany Hammer entered the circle in relief to shut the door in the seventh inning.
What Coach Kolze Said
  • "It was just a great game to finish the weekend off with Vanessa Strong and Bethany Hammer pitching extremely well. I was really happy with how the offense came out and took charge of scoring a bunch early and often, and the defense played great."
