Tigers Split Day One of DeMarini Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. – The Pacific softball team (9-6, 0-0 WCC) opened the DeMarini Invitational on a sunny and clear Friday afternoon at Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium, defeating Rhode Island 6-1 before falling to host Stanford 8-0 in five innings.

Game 1: Pacific 6, Rhode Island 1
  • Pacific piled on the runs early, scoring four times on four hits in the bottom half of the first inning.
  • Madison Kahwaty led off the inning reaching on an error, and the hits started coming from there. After Jessica Mabrey lined out, Pacific put up back-to-back-to-back singles to plate a pair of runs before Hanna Krosky deepened Rhode Island's deficit with a two-run RBI double one inning later.
  • Bethany Hammer earned her second win of the year in style, going a full seven innings with five strikeouts. Hammer escaped a bases-loaded jam in the second inning, then made quicker work of the Rams down the stretch with a 1-2-3 sixth inning.
  • Krosky led the Tigers in the first game from the South Bay, going 2 for 3 from the plate with a run and three RBIs.
What Coach Kolze Said
"Great job by (Bethany) Hammer getting her groove and flying through the game. I was also really happy with our execution of moving runners along to make it easier for people to drive in runs. It was a job by the offense."

Game 2: Stanford 8, Pacific 0
  • Pacific was able to hold the host Cardinal scoreless for the first two frames in back-to-back 1-2-3 innings for Farrah Steffany.
  • The Tigers had a chance to get the upper hand on Stanford in the third inning after Madeline Domingo's leadoff double down the left field line. After Domingo advanced to third on a groundout by Megan Wachholtz, Kahwaty wore an 0-2 pitch to put runners on the corners.
  • Carly Lucchetti roped her third double of the season to right center on the first pitch of the fifth inning for the Tigers' second leadoff double of the day.
What Coach Kolze Said
"That was not a good display of Pacific Softball tonight. We didn't put our best foot forward defensively, offensively or pitching, but we have to wipe the slate clean and have short memories because we have two more games tomorrow."
