Pacific Falls to UC Davis at Home

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team (5-3) was defeated by UC Davis (6-3), 9-3, on Tuesday night at Klein Family Field.

Not scoring their first run until the sixth inning, the Tigers never fully found their stride in the batter's box against the Aggie pitching staff.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Jumping out to an early lead, UC Davis got on the board first on a single from Spencer Gedestad before pushing their lead to 3-0 heading into the home half of the first inning.
  • At the dish, junior Alex LeForestier single to second base in the bottom of the first to get the Tigers in the hit column.
  • Extending their advantage, UC Davis tacked on two more runs of their own in the top of the third, pushing their lead to 5-0 after three innings of play.
  • Scoring three more runs over their next two trips to the plate, the Aggies were ahead of the Tigers 8-0 before a Charles Middleton sacrifice fly scored junior Wyatt Hoffman for Pacific's first run of the contest in the bottom of the sixth.
  • In the following innings, both pitching staffs would settle in as neither team scored until the Aggies tallied their last run of the game on a fielder's choice by Jalen Smith in the top of the ninth.
  • Not going down without a fight, sophomore Jeremy Lea doubled home pinch-hitters Steven Langley and Cameron Michael to cut the UC Davis lead to six in the bottom of the ninth.
  • Unfortunately, the Tigers would ultimately drop their first midweek contest of the season to the Aggies, 9-3.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Providing a spark off the bench, Hoffman was named the City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the Game after finishing 2-for-2 with one run scored against the Aggies.
  • Stabilizing the staff, seniors Nick Swanson and Keaton Glover and junior Henrik Reinertsen combined for three innings of scoreless relief for the Tigers, recording one strikeout apiece.
  • Keeping their rhythm, LeForestier and Lea each extended their hitting streaks to three games despite the loss.
  • Making their impression, redshirt junior Hunter Konecny-Peña and juniors Cameron Michael and Steven Langley also each tallied their first hits in the Orange and Black.
