Tigers Even Series Against Jackrabbits

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team (4-2) notched their fourth victory of the season in walk-off fashion on Saturday afternoon, defeating South Dakota State (1-4) to even the series at one game apiece.

Never giving up, the Tigers continued their hot start at the plate this season by scoring 13+ runs for the third time in the team's six games.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Getting on the board first, South Dakota State took the early 2-0 lead on a home run by Derek Hackman in the top of the second inning.
  • Responding shortly thereafter, junior Hunter Schilperoort blasted his first long ball of the season in the home half of the second, retaking the lead from the Jackrabbits to go up 3-2.
  • Just one inning later, the Tigers broke the game open with a five-run bottom of the third, holding an 8-2 advantage through the three innings of play.
  • Finding their momentum in the box, Pacific tacked on one more run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from junior Alex LeForestier, making it 9-2 in favor of the home team.
  • Taking their foot off the pedal, the bullpen for UOP allowed back-to-back three-run innings in the sixth and seventh as the Jackrabbits cut the Tiger lead to just one at the seventh-inning stretch.
  • Looking for some insurance runs, Pacific added two runs to their total in the bottom of the eighth, which included an RBI single from senior Luke Price to increase their advantage to 11-8.
  • Wasting no time, South Dakota State battled back to put a four-spot on the board in the top of the ninth, regaining the lead, 12-11, heading into the home half of the inning.
  • Working their magic, junior Wyatt Hoffman and sophomore James Arakawa walked to begin the bottom of the ninth. Following suit, junior Charles Middleton laced a two-run double to score both runners as the Tigers walked off against the Jackrabbits, 13-12.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Already showing he is going to be a force to be reckoned with, Middleton was named the City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the Game after tallying a game-high four hits in five trips to the plate. The Sierra College transfer also scored three times, drove in two runs and walked once in the victory.
  • Delivering in the moment, Schilperoort knocked in a team-high four runs along with one hit and one run scored to help boost the offensive attack for the Tigers.
  • Overall, Price (2), Arakawa, Hoffman, LeForestier and sophomore Jeremy Lea all also recorded at least one RBI.
  • Showing his toughness, senior Joseph Standley Jr. provided 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, keeping the Tigers locked in when it mattered most.
