STOCKTON, Calif. – Opening their 2020 season at home, the Pacific beach volleyball team (1-0) swept San Joaquin Delta College (0-3), 5-0, at the Raney Volleyball Courts on Friday afternoon.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Setting the tone, the first team of junior Hanne de Schrijver and freshman Sedona Sherman took down the Delta pairing of Angie Stephnoff and Caitlin Morezoni, 21-8 and 21-10, to record the Tigers first point. Overall, de Schrijver finished with 13 total kills and 19 digs while Sherman added 9 kills and 12 digs of their own.
- In the second matchup, sophomores Riley Patterson and Gabby Leo continued the winning ways for Pacific, defeating Stephanie Fupiani and Jessica Smith of Delta by final scores of 21-9 and 21-5. Leading the attack, Patterson tallied a team-high 15 kills and 20 digs while Leo impressed with 14 kills and 10 digs.
- Furthermore, sophomore Jaydn Tubbs and freshman Jenny Todd also notched a win over the Mustangs, taking down their opponents, Kiana Day and Aliah Cortez, 21-11 and 21-4. The Tiger pairing combined for 23 kills and 28 digs against their crosstown rival.
- Cruising to another win, freshmen Kristy Siridakis and Kaelyn Saler experienced no issues against the Mustangs, recording 21-9 and 21-7 victories of the Delta pairing of Lauren Hicks and Karina Fardmanesh. As a team, the two would record the highest hit percentage of the afternoon for the Tigers, notching a .737 clip against the Mustangs.
- Wrapping up the contest, junior Claire Danna and sophomore Lucy Carpenter were victorious over Sofia Tringolo and Angelica Mercado of Delta, 21-10 and 21-13. The Tiger pairing combined for a total of 17 kills and 29 kills as Pacific secured their fifth and final point.
UP NEXT:
Pacific will return to the sand next weekend when they host the UOP Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 29. The Tigers will face Sacramento State at 10:00 am to begin the day followed by a matchup with San Jose State at 2:00 pm. Both contests will be held at the Raney Volleyball Courts.
