STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team (3-1) exploded in a marathon 14-12 win over California Baptist (1-3) on Monday afternoon at Klein Family Field.
Totaling 17 hits in the victory, the Tigers battled with the Lancers throughout the entire contest, not taking their final lead until one out in the bottom of the eighth inning.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- The Tigers would notch their first hit of the afternoon on an infield single by sophomore James Arakawa in the bottom of the first, but the Lancers scored first on an RBI double by Kyle Oyama in the top of the second.
- Responding shortly thereafter, Pacific tied the game at one after two extra-base hits from senior Carter Hayes and sophomore Ben Nemivant in the home half of the second.
- Finding the perfect placement, sophomore Jeremy Lea gave UOP the lead after poking a single into right center field to score Nemivant, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Tigers.
- Tacking on another run on the strength of two hits, Pacific led the Lancers, 3-1, after three innings of play.
- Unfortunately, CBU regained the lead after a six-run top of the fourth, which included a three-run homerun from John Glenn, taking a 7-3 advantage into the bottom of the fourth.
- Wasting no time, the Tigers added three runs of their own on four hits in the home half of the fourth, including an RBI single from junior James McClenaghan.
- Evening the score, Lea lined his second RBI single of the game into centerfield to tie the game at seven in the bottom of the fifth.
- Although the Lancers jumped back on top with three runs in the top of the sixth, Pacific battled back for the second time in as many innings, taking back the lead on a grand slam by junior Joe Fitzhugh in the home half of the sixth. The Tigers led CBU, 12-10 through six innings of play.
- Trading runs back and forth, California Baptist evened the score yet again by plating two runs in the top of the seventh, knotting the score at 12.
- Moving to the bottom of the eighth, Pacific took the lead for good on an RBI triple by senior Luke Price that banged off the left field wall, which was followed with a sacrifice fly by Fitzhugh.
- Locking down the marathon win, sophomore Dylan Pottgieser shut down the Lancers in the top of the ninth, securing the 14-12 victory and the 3-1 series win over CBU.

- Coming up clutch, Fitzhugh was named the City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the Game after drilling a grand slam and driving home his first 5 RBI's as a Tiger.
- Stabilizing the top of the order, Arakawa and McClenaghan finished a combined 6-of-9 from the plate while also tallying one RBI and one run scored each.
- Joining the hit parade, Lea, Nemivant, Price and junior Alex LeForestier each recorded at least two hits and one RBI apiece in the win, with Lea tallying two RBI against the Lancers.
