DAVIS, Calif. -
Lucy Davis led the Tigers in both contests on the opening day of the Aggie Invite, but it wasn't enough as the Tigers dropped two spirited fights to Fresno State and Stanford at the Schaal Aquatics Center.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
No. 1 Stanford 17, No. 18 Pacific 3
- Davis scored on the powerplay at the 4:32 mark of the first period to bring the Tigers level in a fight with the top-ranked Cardinal.
- Pacific opened with tenacity on the defensive end, drawing three exclusions and forcing two turnovers in the opening eight minutes.
- The Tigers managed four shots on frame in the first quarter while holding Stanford to just six.
- Brianna Utas scored on the powerplay to bring the Tigers within one again off the exclusion drawn by Toula Falvey at 5:36 in the second period.
- Pacific put up a fight in the second half by recording shots on the Cardinal goal, but overall could not find their rhythm on offense throughout the contest.
- Ultimately, it would not be enough to upset the nation's top team as the Tigers fell to Stanford by a final score of 17-3.
No. 12 Fresno State 12, No. 18 Pacific 7
- Fresno State and Pacific battled it out in an offense-heavy first period that saw a combined eight goals between the two teams.
- Pacific came back from an 0-2 hole to even the score at two goals apiece after Ana Martinez do Amaral scored on the powerplay at the 3:24 mark of the first period.
- The Tigers kept chipping away at Fresno State's lead throughout the first half, whittling it down to 6-5 at the break thanks to Lucy Davis' even-strength goal with four seconds remaining in the second period.
- Coming out of the locker room, Davis led the Tigers' comeback effort in the second half with two of her team-high three goals in the final two periods against the Bulldogs.
- Unfortunately, these would be the only goals of the second half for Pacifc as UOP was defeated by No. 12 Fresno State, 12-7, in their second match of the doubleheader
