STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team (2-1) got back in the win column in style on Sunday afternoon, cruising past California Baptist (1-2), 13-2, at Klein Family Field.
Following dominant performances on the mound and in the batter's box, the Tigers now hold the advantage in the series, 2-1, heading into the final contest of the four game set on Monday.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- After Pearce retired the Lancers in order in the top of the first, the Tigers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the home half of the inning after back-to-back hits from senior Carter Hayes and junior Bryce Kirk.
- Finding a late rally in the bottom of the second, three straight two-out hits helped Pacific extend their lead to 4-0 through two innings of play.
- Getting into a grove through the opening frames, Pearce faced the minimum through four innings of work on the mound. The Lancers would not record their first hit of the contest until a single into right field by John Glenn in the top of the fifth.
- Although the Tigers would not score through the next two innings, Pearce continued to impress by shutting down the Lancers for seven total innings, notching a new career-high with 10 strikeouts in a stellar performance.
- Pouring it on, UOP added to their lead with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the seventh as juniors James McClenaghan and Charles Middleton Jr. tallied RBI's to give Pacific the 7-0 advantage.
- Making his debut on the rubber, senior Nick Swanson delivered a scoreless top of the eighth before the Tigers broke the game open in the bottom half. Capitalizing on three Lancer errors, Pacific used a bases-clearing triple by junior Alex LeForestier to tack on six more runs, making the score 13-0 in favor of UOP.
- CBU would finally get on the board with a two-run home run in the top of the ninth, but senior Tommy Costello closed out the victory for the Tigers with relative eas as Pacific defeated the Lancers by a final score of 13-2.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Dominating on the bump throughout the afternoon, Pearce was tabbed the City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the Game after blanking the Lancers in seven innings of work, allowing only one hit with no walks or earned runs in route to establishing a new career-high with 10 strikeouts.
- Leading the offensive attack, LeForestier notched three hits in four trips to the plate along with four RBI's two runs scored and one walk.
- Doing his part, Middleton also contributed offensively with two hits in three-at bats, two RBI, two runs scored and two walks.
- Overall, the first four batters in the Tigers' lineup combined to go 8-17 from the dish, driving in seven runs and scoring nine times in addition to drawing three walks.
- Debuting in the starting lineup for the first time in the Orange and Black, junior Joe Fitzhugh recorded his first hit as a Tiger with a single to right field in the bottom of the seventh.

Pacific will wrap up Opening Weekend with the final game of the four-game set against the Lancers on Monday, Feb. 17. First pitch from Klein Family Field is scheduled for 12:00 pm. Mason McGarvey (RHP) and
Hunter Schilperoort (LHP) are slated to toe the rubber for CBU and UOP respectively. The contest will be broadcast live at game time on the WCC Network.
