STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific softball team (4-3, 0-0 WCC) executed from the plate and broke a three-game slump on Saturday evening under the lights at Bill Simoni Field in a 6-1 win over CSU Bakersfield on day two of the Libby Matson Tournament.
How it Happened
- Pacific's offense came in a two-inning spurt with three runs apiece in the fourth and fifth inning.
- The Tigers' fourth-inning rally began with a one-out single from Talli Shepherd. With two runners on after a follow-up single from Carly Lucchetti, Caitlyn Sung drove home Shepherd with a double to left center.
- Sung came home on Pacific's fourth hit of the inning, a single up the middle off the bat of Bradi Kooyman. Sung ended the night going 2 for 3 with three RBIs, while Shepherd sported a 3-for-3 clip from the plate with two runs.
- Megan Wachholtz got things going in the fifth inning with a leadoff home run – her first as a Tiger – while Sung doubled for the second consecutive inning to plate two more for Pacific.
- Farrah Steffany went a complete seven innings in the circle for the Tigers in her first career appearance, striking out three and making Bakersfield strand a total of four runners on base. Steffany escaped a jam in the sixth after the Roadrunners managed to put two runners on base.
What Coach Kolze Said
"What a great job by Farrah in her college debut! She really pounded the strike zone to make it very easy on our defense. I thought we did a much better job defensive and offensively with adjustments tonight that made the game much easier for us. Hopefully we can carry this into tomorrow."
