Pacific Fizzles in Second Half, Falls to Nevada

Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – Trailing by only two at the halftime break, the Pacific men's basketball team could not keep pace with Nevada in the second half as the Tigers dropped their first road contest of the season on Monday night in Reno.

Although three players would finish in double figures, Pacific struggled as a team offensively throughout the night, shooting just 33.8 percent overall as Nevada caught fire down the stretch to secure their third victory of the season.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Pacific withstood an opening 8-0 run by the Wolf Pack, trailed by two points at halftime and led by five in the second half. Nevada, however, ended the contest on a 21-12 run over the final 10:04 to pull away with the 70-58 win at Lawlor Events Center.
  • Following Nevada's hot start in the first half, Pacific would counter with a 12-3 run over the next 4:19 to take a 12-11 lead, exchanging blows with the Wolf Pack throughout the remainder of the first half to trail 37-35 at intermission.
  • The Tigers held Nevada to just 38.5 percent from the floor in the opening half, but Pacific converted just two of seven free throws in the half, a trend that would continue throughout the game as Pacific went 6-for-16 from the line in the contest.
  • Looking to build momentum, UOP opened the second half on an 11-4 run to take a 46-41 lead at the 13:41 mark, matching their largest lead of the contest. Sophomore Daniss Jenkins punctuated the run with a slashing layup on the second assist of the night from Justin Moore.
  • Down the stretch, however, Nevada would get 10 points from Zane Meeks, who finished with a double-double (18 points, 11 rebounds), seven points from freshman Alem Huseinovic as well as 17 points and a game-high six assists from sophomore transfer Grant Sherfield as the Wolf Pack held on to take down the Tigers for the double-digit victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Despite a rough shooting night as a team, Jenkins was named the Hardworking Player of the Game after finishing with 19 points, the third-highest total of his career. Additionally, the 6'3" guard also notched 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal.
  • Delivering when called upon, Broc Finstuen was just one rebound shy of his first career double-double as the senior tallied 10 points and 9 rebounds for the Tigers.
  • Continuing to shine out of the gates this season, senior Jeremiah Bailey tallied 12 points in the loss while also adding 8 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 steals and 1 assist in an all-around effort. Both Bailey and Jenkins have now reached double figures in both games the Tigers have played so far this year.
  • As a whole, the Tigers saw advantages in several categories as Pacific led Nevada in points in the paint (26-20), points off turnovers (17-9) and second chance points (14-8).
