Pacific Names Ed Moore as Head Women’s Soccer Coach

STOCKTON, Calif. – University of the Pacific director of athletics Janet Lucas announced Friday the hiring of Ed Moore as the new women's soccer head coach. He becomes the third head coach in the Division I history of the program, which began in 1994.

Moore, who holds a USSF "A" Coaching license, comes to Stockton from Boise State, where he spent the last seven seasons as an assistant coach and an integral part of both individual and team development while being a key component in the Broncos' team culture.

"I am honored and overjoyed to be joining the Pacific family," Moore said. "I am grateful to athletics director Janet Lucas for giving me the opportunity to lead this program, and I am excited to get to work. I would also like to thank our Associate AD, Holly Trexler, and the entire search committee for all their energy and efforts to make this possible."

"My time at Boise State with head coach Jim Thomas and everyone in the athletic department was phenomenal, and I will be eternally grateful for the way they helped me grow and develop as a coach. I look forward to leading this group of women at Pacific and guiding this program to new heights and sustained success."

The Jackson, Mississippi native helped the Broncos reach the Mountain West tournament six times throughout his seven-year tenure, while earning back-to-back regular season titles in 2018 and 2019. This past year, Moore helped lead Boise State to an 18-5 record and a Mountain West Conference tournament championship for the just the second NCAA Tournament appearance for the program and first since 2009. The Broncos earned United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Awards in both seasons.

"It is my distinct pleasure to welcome Ed Moore as the newest addition to the Pacific Family," Lucas said.  "Coach Moore is an outstanding professional, who is the right person to advance our program competitively while supporting academic excellence and the holistic development of our soccer student-athletes.  Ed brings a wealth of coaching experience and his ability to recruit, teach, and connect with people to the Tigers.  We are truly excited for the future of Pacific women's soccer under Coach Moore's leadership."

Moore's first season with Boise State in 2013 saw the program elevate its save percentage from .755 the previous year to .787. In his seven years in Boise, Moore helped the Broncos to four seasons that produced four of the six highest single-season save percentages in program history.

He has been part of a staff that has produced outstanding numbers offensively as well, with three seasons of his tenure producing three of the five highest point totals in program history, along with two years that rank in the top five in total goals.

A year prior to the Boise State's first regular season conference title, Moore helped lead the 2017 Broncos to a 13-6-3 mark with an eight-match win streak. The Broncos' 38 goals that year were the second most in school history.

In terms of individual work, Moore has been at the top of his class. This past season, he helped Broncos goalkeeper Tara Fisher to a 0.86 goals against average, the second lowest in program history. Fisher's 13 wins also tied a program record.

"We couldn't be happier for Ed to take the next step in his coaching journey with the University of the Pacific," Thomas said. "His knowledge, expertise and strength of character will be perfect in building a program both the university and conference can be proud of."

In 2013, Moore also helped Bronco keeper Maddy McDevitt shatter the school's single-season shutout record (8) and set a new school-low with a 0.78 goals against average, later broken this past season by Sydney Smith (.736).

Before Boise State, Moore was an assistant at Seattle University and previously at Millsaps College in his hometown of Jackson while simultaneously serving as the executive director of Jackson Futbol Club. Moore also was an assistant at national powerhouse Duke, where he helped lead the Blue Devils to the second round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament with a 15-7-1 record. He began coaching at his alma mater, University of Evansville, as the Purple Aces' volunteer goalkeeper coach in 2003.

Moore was a standout goalkeeper for Evansville from 1999-2003, where his 93 saves during the 1999 season still stand as the second most in a single season in Purple Aces history. He won the Spirit of the Aces award in 2001 for his determination, enthusiasm and inspiration to the program, and was named the team's Most Dedicated Player in 2002. Moore earned his Bachelor's degree in Educational Studies from Evansville in 2004.
