Tigers Stay Undefeated In GCC's, Cruise Past SCU

STOCKTON, Calif. - The women's water polo team earned their sixth straight victory and seventh consecutive regular season win on Saturday against Santa Clara University.  

The Tigers would route past the Broncos by a final score of 18-4 to clinch back-to-back undefeated seasons in GCC play. Pacific moves to an overall record of 14-8 and finishes with a perfect 7-0 in conference. Santa Clara falls to 8-16 overall, 1-6 in GCC play.


Pacific vs. Santa Clara - In Case You Missed It:

  • A season-high eight goals in the second period willed the Tigers out to a 12-4 lead over the Broncos approaching halftime. UOP would remain in control in the second half and add six more goals to cruise to victory.
  • Mariana Duarte logged all four of her game-high four goals in the first half as she found the back of the net four times in the second quarter. The Sao Paolo, Brazil product would finish the day with four goals, two assists, and two steals. 
  • Kyra Christmas extended her streak with a goal to nine matches in Pacific's match against SCU. Christmas matched Duarte with a game-high four goals in the contest. She would also record her eighth straight hat trick making it six games in a row where the Calgary, Alberta native has finished with four or more goals. 
  • Five Tigers end the day with multiple goals. Savannah Fitzgerald would join Christmas and Duarte with her fourth hat trick of the season. 
  • Pacific shot an efficient 18-27 from the field and held the Eagles to just 4-17 shooting.
  • Senior Samantha Pfaff would log four saves and hold the Broncos scoreless in her final home match at Chris Kjeldsen. Fellow seniors Brinnley Barthels and Viktoria Szmodics would also get on the board combining for three goals. Szmodics would also dish out a game-best three assists.

  • Following a sweep in conference play, the Tigers prepare for the 2019 Golden Coast Conference Tournament (April 26th-28th) held at Fresno State.
  • Clinching the No. 1 seed following their win against the Broncos, Pacific awaits their seeding and opponent as they trek down to the Central Valley to compete at Fresno State Aquatics Center.
