Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Tigers Show Fight in Loss to Bruins

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Pacific women's basketball team (6-3) never strayed too far behind the tall test in front of them, but No. 10 UCLA was too tough to handle in a 68-57 defeat Sunday afternoon at Pauley Pavilion.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

First Half
  • Pacific enjoyed a 7-0 run late in the first quarter after a sluggish start, tying the game with a layup from Lianna Tillman.
  • The Tigers held UCLA to 29 percent shooting through the first quarter and shot 29 percent for the half.
  • Sofie Tryggedsson reached double-digit scoring for the fifth game of the season and fourth in her last six with 15 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the floor and 4-of-7 from three. The Denmark native and Colorado State transfer accounted for four of the team's five makes from downtown.
  • Each team enjoyed runs of their own in the opening 20 minutes, and Pacific was no exception. The Tigers shined in the final minutes of the half with three consecutive field goals to pull within 30-26 after Tryggedsson's fourth three of the half.
  • Pacific shot 29 percent from the floor and 50 percent from three for the opening half.

Second Half
  • Loretta Kakala earned her first bucket as a Tiger in her first appearance for the Orange and Black, muscling her way through the lane late in the third quarter.
  • Spurts from UCLA didn't faze Pacific, as the Tigers went on a 6-0 run to cut things close.
  • Higgins broke into double figures in scoring in the second half, eclipsing ten for the fourth time in her last five games.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Valerie Higgins' day consisted of 15 points on 5-of-17 shooting and nine rebounds to flirt with a double double, but it was her two steals that cemented her in the top 20 in the Pacific record book in career steals. Higgins now sits in 19th all-time with 120 takeaways.
  • Tryggedsson's 15 – all in the first half – led the Tigers on the afternoon against a Bruin squad that couldn't seem to able to contain Pacific from downtown, earning her City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the Game.

UP NEXT:
  • Pacific is headed to Las Vegas next week for the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic at the South Point Arena, located inside the South Point Hotel and Casino. The field consists of St. Francis College, Troy, Kent State, Toledo, Georgia Southern and Pacific, but the Tigers will take on St. Francis on Thursday, December 19 before battling Toledo on the 20th. Don Gubbins will have the radio call for both contests at Pacific All-Access
