STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women's volleyball team dropped its final contest of the season after falling to Santa Clara in straight-sets (25-16, 26-24, 26-24) on Tuesday night.
The Tigers conclude their 2019 campaign with a 13-17 overall record, including a 5-13 record in West Coast Conference (WCC play). Santa Clara wraps up regular-season play with a 20-11 record, 10-8 in WCC play.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
- Santa Clara controlled the entire first set, taking a comfortable 17-10 lead, which then led to a 23-12 following a 6-2 run. Pacific would answer back with a 5-2 run, but would drop the set, 25-16.
- In the second set, Pacific and Santa Clara matched point-for-point through the first six serves. The Broncos pulled ahead with a 4-0 run. Pacific would come back within one point at 8-7, but Santa Clara would pull back ahead by five points (13-8).
- With a 18-15 deficit, Pacific outscored Santa Clara 5-2 to knot the game at 20-20. The score was tied four more times —21-21, 22-22, 23-23, and 24-24 — before consecutive attack errors by the Tigers sealed the 26-24 set victory for the Broncos.
- The Tigers jumped out to an early lead, going 4-1. Pacific held the lead for nearly the rest of the set.
- A Santa Clara attack error lifted the Tigers to a 20-16 lead, but following a Santa Clara timeout, the Broncos won six-straight points that gave them their first lead of the set (22-20).
- Pacific battled back to tie the game at 22-22, 23-23, and 24-24, but would fall once more by a score of 26-24 after a kill by Broncos' Taylor Odom and a Pacific attack error wrapped up the night's competition.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- Riley Patterson had another stellar performance, leading all players with 17 kills. With just seven errors in 40 total swings, Patterson compiled a .250 hitting percentage on the night. In addition, the sophomore was second on the team with 11 digs.
- Sedona Sherman hit a team-best .400 (7-1-15)
- Jadyn Tubbs collected 15 digs, while Hanne De Schrijver totaled 20 assists.
