PROVO, Utah – The Pacific volleyball team put up a fight in Provo, nearly taking No. 11 ranked BYU to five sets. The Tigers (12-12, 4-8 WCC) fell to the Cougars (20-3, 11-1 WCC) in four sets (25-22, 11-25, 12-25, 25-20).
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
- Pacific found themselves down 9-4 early in the match, but the Tigers battled back within one point (10-9), thanks to kills by Riley Patterson (2), Sedona Sherman (1), Kennedy Kaminsky (1), and a service ace by Jadyn Tubbs.
- The two squads matched nearly point for point through the next 17 serves. Following a Pacific service error at 18-16, the Tigers went on a 3-0 run to regain a lead.
- The set was tied at 19-19 and 20-20, but Pacific outscored BYU 5-2 to claim the set victory.
- BYU completely controlled the second and third sets, hitting .640 (16-0-25) in the second set and .331 (13-4-29) in the second set, while holding the Tigers to a collective 17 kills combined.
- Pacific was hanging close to the Cougars through the first 9 serves, but following a BYU attack error that put the Tigers within one point (5-4) the Cougars went on a 5-0 run to extend its lead to six (10-4).
- The Tigers went down by as much as eight points (14-6). They then went on a 6-1 run to stay within striking distance.
- Despite a four point swing at 22-16, Pacific was unable to come closer than three points through out the remainder of the match.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- Pacific was extremely aggressive while serving, collecting seven service aces on the afternoon. Tubbs led the charge with three service aces.
- Patterson recorded another double-double with team highs of 12 kills and 13 digs.
- Carissa Bradford, for the second meeting with the Cougars, had an outstanding performance. She hit a team-best .333 (10-2-24).
- Sherman also hit .300 on the day after totaling eight kills and just two errors in 20 attempts.
- Sophomore setter Gabby Leo nearly broke her career-high (39) in assists, dishing out 36 in Saturday's match.
UP NEXT
