Tigers Defeated By Denver in Final Non-conference Match

DENVER, Colo. – The Pacific men's soccer team (3-6-1) fell to the University of Denver (2-6-2), 2-1, on Sunday afternoon in the Tigers final non-conference match of the season.
 
After trailing 1-0 most of the match, UOP would tie the game on a Derick Roque goal in the 76th minute, but ultimately were defeated as the Pioneers countered with the game-winning goal with just ten minutes left in the match.
 
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Denver would jump out to an early lead as a Preston Judd goal put the Pioneers ahead, 1-0, in the 14th minute of the match.
  • The Tigers outshot their opponents, 8-3, in the first half as five different players were able to get shots off. Senior Anthony Orendain would pace the offense with three total shots, including one on goal in the first 45 minutes of the match.
  • Coming out of the halftime break, Orendain would continue to apply the pressure by recording his fourth shot of the contest at the 51:42 mark.
  • In the following minutes, both teams exchanged shots back and forth until freshman Derick Roque found the back of the net for his second goal of the season in the 76th minute. This goal knotted the score at 1 all with just under fifteen minutes left to play in the match.
  • Just four minutes later, the Pioneers regained the lead on Bailey Heller's first goal of the season, making the score 2-1 in favor of Denver.
  • Aiming to comeback, senior Cory Wright and redshirt senior Johnatan Rico-Contreres tallied two more shots for the Tigers in the match's final ten minutes.
  • Using their home pitch to their advantage, Denver would hold on to secure the victory and defeat Pacific by a final score of 2-1.
  • Overall, the Tigers outshot the Pioneers 13-7 in the match, with both teams being equally as accurate with four shots on goal each. Additionally, UOP led their opponents in corner kicks, 7-1, on the night.
 
UP NEXT:
Pacific will begin conference play on Saturday, Oct. 12 when they travel to Portland to take on the Pilots at 7:00 pm. The Tigers next home match is scheduled for Saturday, October 26 at 7:00 pm versus LMU, when UOP will honor Breast Cancer Awareness.
