Pacific Falls to UC Santa Barbara in Dual Meet

STOCKTON, Calif. – Despite falling to UC Santa Barbara, the Pacific Men's and Women's swimming teams snagged a combined 10 first place finishes in Saturday's meet at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.

The Gauchos edged the women's team 151-137, while the Pacific men fell to UCSB by scores of 164-107.

Senior captain Kenna Ramey continues to be the driving force behind the Tigers' women's program, snagging top finishes in three of her four events, which included victories in the 200 Medley Relay, 50 Free, and 100 Free. Ramey combined with Cai Hong Singh, Semaj Walker, and Becca Aguilar for a time of 1:43.75 in the 200 Medley Relay. In the 50 Free and 100 Free she posted times of 23.59 and 52.14, respectively. The Washington product also snagged a second place finish in the 100 Fly with a time of 55.95.

Brigid McNally was the Tigers top distance swimmer on the day, finishing first in the 500 Free (4:57.59) and second overall in the 1000 Free (10:20.59). Her foursome also earned a sixth place finish in the 400 Free Relay.

Also earning top finishes on the women's side were Taylor Hosmer, Hong Singh, and Elina Rosario. Hosmer snagged her win in the 200 Free with a finish of 1:52.49. Hosmer also earned points for her squad in the 200 IM (2nd, 2:08.94) and the 500 Free (5th, 5:11.38).

Singh, who also swam anchor in the 200 Medley Relay win, was first in the 100 Back (58.19). 

Rosario put forth a big performance in the 200 Breast, which is usually heavily dominated by fellow Tiger swimmer Angela Gagliardo. With UCSB's Brittney Straw hot on her tail, Rosario was able to hold off the Gaucho and clock a time of 2:21.97. In addition, she snagged a third place finish (1:05.34), behind Semaj Walker (1:04.98) in the 100 Breast.

Other strong performances on the women's side include: Lauren Atkins he fourth place finish in 1000 Free (10:44.64), Aguilar's third place finish in the 200 Free (1:54.34), Kathleen Gani's fourth place finish in the 100 Back (59.77), Gisela Olvera's third place finish in the 200 Fly (2:11.55). 

Erin Oliphant was the Tigers' top finisher inn the 200 Back (2:09.69)j, while the 400 Free Relay team, including Aguilar, Meredith Lillie, Singh and Hosmer, finished second with a time of 3:33.16.

On the men's side Pacific finished 1-2, respectively, in the 400 Free Relay and 200 Medley Relay. Mason Miller, Stewart Harrison, Dylan Toy, and Josh Owens collectively recorded a time of 3:02.41 in the 400 Relay. Miller also combined with Angel Alcala, Yahav Shahaf and Miles Mackenzie for a time of 1:31.40 in the 200 Medley Relay.

For the second-straight week Toy has served as one of the Pacific's top swimmers, claiming a victory in the 100 Free (44.93) as well as leading three scoring Tigers in the 50 Free, with a second place time of 20.72. Harrison was third (20.89) and Miller was fourth (21.06) in the event.

Michael Kang snagged first place finish in the 200 Free with a time of 1:43.05. He also contributed a third place finish in the 500 Free (4:45.37).

Niles Biolley earned second in three events — 100 Back (51.20), 200 Back (1:51.17), and the 200 IM (1:54.77). Other swimmers snagging second place finishes on the day include Shahaf in the 100 Breast (58.41) and Alcala in the 200 Fly (1:52.71).

Neil Franka was the program's top finisher in the 200 Breast (4th, 2:12.33), while Brandon Yong and Miller were the Tigers top swimmers in the 1000 Free (9:58.66) and the 100 Fly (49.72), respectively.

The Pacific women's program will return to action on February 3, 2018 when they host UC Davis for a dual meet. A select few swimmers will also travel to the Ohio State Winter Invite on February 10 and 11. The MPSF Conference Championships are slated for February 14-17 in Los Angeles.
