SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Pacific women's tennis team dropped a competitive match on the road against West Coast Conference opponent USF Saturday afternoon losing 4-3. Yuki Asami posted both doubles and singles wins, while the Tigers earned the doubles point.
Yuki Asami and Anna Ramos Vinolas teamed for a 6-2 doubles victory over Shanna Dos Santos and Hanna Borjeson, while Anneroos Nederstigt and Christiana Ferrari rolled over Margarita Treyes and Amber Del Rosario, 6-3.
In singles, Sabrina Rodriguez topped Jiayu Mu at the fifth position, 6-1, 6-1, while Treyes defeated Cristina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4. Asami then beat Alisha Sharma, 6-4, 6-2, as the Tigers won the No. 6 matchup. But at No. 2 Emily Maxfield posted a third-set win over Nederstigt, 6-2, 0-6, 6-1, to narrow the Tigers lead to 3-2.
Genevieve McCloskey rallied back to beat Maayan Sela, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, in No. 1 singles as the match hung on the third set between Borjeson and Vinolas in the No. 3 matchup. Vinolas won the first set 7-5 before Borjeson won the second and third sets in a tiebreak, 7-4, 7-3 respectively as the Dons assured the win.
Pacific falls to 0-4 in WCC play and 5-9 overall, while the Dons improve to 4-12 on the season and 1-3 in the WCC.
The Tigers return home next Friday and Saturday to continue WCC play facing San Diego and BYU. Friday's match against San Diego is slated for a 1:30 p.m. first serve and Saturday's contest facing BYU begins at noon at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.
