Pacific Falls To Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Tiger women's tennis team will have to wait for their first conference victory as they fell 5-1 to Santa Clara on Friday afternoon. The loss drop Pacific to 5-8 overall, 0-3 in WCC play while the win brings the Broncos to 6-7 on the season, 1-2 in conference action.

"We did a good job on a lot of courts of fighting our way back on matches," said head coach Tina Samara.  "We let way too many opportunities slip away, playing too conservatively when we needed to go after our shots."

In doubles, At two, Anneroos Nederstigt/Sabrina Rodriguez fell to their opponent 6-2. At one, Mayan Sela/Cristina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz fell 6-3, giving the Broncos the doubles point. Yuki Asami/Anna Ramos Vinolas were leading 4-3 at three but their match went unfinished.

Sela fell 6-0, 6-2 in singles at the one spot while Nederstigt lost a heartbreaker at the two 7-6, 7-6. Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz fell in three sets 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 at the four spot, but Rodriguez was able to get the Tigers their first point of the afternoon at the five with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Ramos Vinolas experienced a setback at the three with a 6-2, 6-3 loss. Asami's match at the six was split 6-4, 6-7 when it went unfinished.
