Solid Singles Play Gives Tigers Second Win In A Row

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Tiger women's tennis team made it two-straight wins on Sunday as they topped visiting Nevada 4-3 behind strong singles play. This is Pacific's second win of the weekend as they beat the San Francisco Academy of Art University 4-3 on Friday. The win brings Pacific to 4-3 on the year.

"Today was a great team win for us. Once again we let the doubles point slip away, but the true test was how we were going to handle it," boasted head coach Tina Samara. "I was so impressed how we stepped up as a team. It was great to see Yuki and Sabri get straight set wins again. Cris and Maayan showed their toughness winning in three sets for the second straight time. Maayan has been unbelievable at taking these pressure situations with the match tied and finding ways to win. I'm very proud of this group and the fight they showed."

At three doubles, Yuki Asami/Anna Ramos Vinolas battled back after being down 3-1 to take their match 6-4. At two, Anneroos Nederstigt/Sabrina Rodriguez fell 6-1, which left it up to the one spot of Maayan Sela/Cristina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz. However the duo fell 7-6 (4), giving Nevada the doubles point.

In singles, Asami cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the six spot to give the Tigers their first point of the afternoon. At four, Rodriguez came back down 4-1 to take her first set 7-5 and then won the second 6-3. Nederstigt (6-3, 6-4) and Ramos Vinolas (6-2, 6-2) both dropped their respective singles matches  at the two and four spots. Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz won her match at the three spot 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 to knot the score 3-3.

Just like on Friday, the match came down to the one spot where Sela was yet again able to take down her opponent, who was #98-ranked Claudia Herrero Garcia, and secure the victory. The sophomore won in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

The Tigers cap off their homestand this Tuesday when they take on Western Kentucky. Match time is 10 AM.
