Tigers, Highlanders Renew Old Big West Rivalry

Box Score

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Pacific Tigers return to familiar territory on Thursday night when they visit the UC Riverside Highlanders for the first time since the 2012-13 season, their last in the Big West. Pacific's last game versus Riverside was at Student Recreation Center on March 2, 2013 when Pacific earned a 70-68 win on their way to finishing the campaign with an NCAA Tournament berth.

Pacific is 20-4 all-time versus the Highlanders and have lost at Riverside just once in the all-time series, a 66-63 loss on Feb. 5, 2009. The Tigers have won five of the last six meetings in the series, with their most recent loss coming at the Spanos Center on Jan. 7, 2012 by a final of 64-57. Pacific has won three straight since then.

The Tigers hope to earn back-to-back victories and look to make it four wins in five games following an 80-58 win over Canisius on Sunday to end the Men Against Breast Cancer Showcase. Jahlil Tripp fell one point and one rebound shy of notching the first triple-double in Pacific history. Tripp had a game-high 11 assists in the contest. Anthony Townes led the way with 14 points, while Miles Reynolds, Jack Williams, Roberto Gallinat and Kendall Small all scored in double figures for the Tigers, who shot 51.7 percent from the floor and 46.2 percent (6-for-13) from beyond the arc in the contest.

UC Riverside enters Thursday's contest 2-3 on the season and coming off an 87-42 loss on Sunday at Michigan. The Highlanders' season got off to a rousing start with a 74-66 win at Cal on Nov. 10. They fell at Loyola Marymount in their ensuing contest, 76-64 at Gersten Pavillion.

The Highlanders are led by Alex Larsson, who averages a team-high 12.6 points per game while pulling down 5.6 rebounds per game, the second-most on the team to Chance Murray (6.8). Larsson is also shooting 54 percent from the floor over the first five games.

Thursday's contest will be broadcast online only at www.pacifictigers.com with Zack Bayrouty calling the play-by-play. The pre-game coverage will begin at 6:50 p.m. PT with tip-off set for 7 p.m.  The game will not be broadcast via KWSX 1280 AM or iHeart Radio due to contractual obligations to carry the NFL.
