Tigers Fall 5-2 to New Mexico

Box Score

Stockton, Calif. – Two goals we're not enough for the women's soccer team as they fell to the visiting New Mexico Lobos 5-2 on Sunday afternoon.

"I think we played hard, we saw a fight in this soccer program that we haven't seen in years," said head coach Kerri Scroope. "Two goals are huge for us. We're in a drought and it's always scary until you get that first one in but to get two against a team like this is huge and it shows us hope for the future."

New Mexico found the net first in the 17th minute when Jennifer Munoz scored off a corner kick to put the Lobos up 1-0. Shortly after the second half began, New Mexico was able to add to their lead on another score, this time from Jessie Hix in the 48th minute.

Sigird Aas' first collegiate goal couldn't come soon enough and the freshman made sure to make her free position shot count to put the Tigers on the board in the 50th minute. The Lobos would add two more scores within minutes of one another before junior Loren Landrus saw her shot dribble just past the New Mexico goalie to make it 4-2. New Mexico would add one more goal in the 85th minute on a penalty kick.

In her first start of the season, goalie Lena Perry logged a career-high 13 saves against the shot-happy Lobos, who took a total of 18 including 11 in the second half.

The Tigers will embark on a lengthy road trip this week that includes two East Coast contests before coming back to Knoles Field on September 22nd to take on UC Santa Barbara.
