San Jose, Calif. – The men's soccer team suffered their first loss of 2016 after falling 3-2 to San Jose State on Sunday afternoon in a match that saw three red cards issued.

Johnatan Rico-Contreres opened up the scoring in the 14^th minute off a Tristan Blackmon assist to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead, his second goal in just as many games. The lead was short lived as the Spartans would answer with a goal of their own shortly after to tie the game 1-1.  

Sophomore Bob Groenendyk netted his first goal as a Tiger to put the Orange and Black back up on top 2-1 early in the second half. However San Jose would answer yet again a minute later to knot things at two apiece. In the 57^th minute senior Julio Cervantes looked to give Pacific the lead on a penalty kick, but his shot met 'keeper Nedin Tucakovic's reach, keeping it tied.

With ten minutes to go the Spartans would convert a penalty kick of their own after goalie Curtis Goldsmith received a red card. In his first collegiate action, new goalie Alexander Williams couldn't quite deflect Andrew Mendoza's strike, giving the Spartans their first lead of the day. Despite playing the final nine minutes with a man advantage, Pacific couldn't register a third goal and the Spartans walked away with their first victory of the season. 

Pacific outshot the Spartans 19-13 including 12 in the second half. Forward Cervantes logged a game-high five shots, two of which were on goal.
