Malibu, Calif. - Engin Ege Colak scored three goals including the game-winner in overtime as the No. 4 Pacific men's water polo team defeated No. 9 Pepperdine, 9-8, on the road in the Golden Coast Conference opener.
Pacific also received two goals from Tim Reeves, and goals from Aleksandar Petrovic, Luis Araya, Kale Ai, and Devon Thumwood.
Alen Osmanovic made 12 saves in goal for the win, while Pepperdine's Zack Rhodes made 18 in the loss.
Pacific led 2-0 after the first quarter on goals from Ai and Colak. Reeves stretched the lead to 3-0 before Pepperdine tallied two power-play goals and an even strength goal to tie it at 3-3. Reeves put Pacific up 4-3 at halftime, with a goal just four seconds before the end of the period.
In the third, the Waves surged ahead 5-4, before Araya tied the game with 3:53 to go in the quarter. Pepperdine's Brock Liebhardt and Thumwood traded goals, before Colak tallied the first goal of the fourth quarter for a 7-6 lead.
But Marko Asic scored two goals in 33 seconds for Pepperdine for an 8-7 lead. With 2:38 to go in regulation, Ikko Saito set up Petrovic, who ripped it home to tie the game at 8-8.
With 51 seconds left in the first of two 3-minute overtime periods, Colak finished a pass from Petrovic for the go-ahead goal that would stand up as the game-winner.
Pacific improves to 12-3 overall, 1-0 in GCC action. Pepperdine falls to 8-5 overall, 0-1 in GCC play.
The Tigers will play at home for the first time in 2016 next Saturday, as the Tigers welcome No. 1 UCLA to Chris Kjeldsen Pool for a 12:00 p.m. start.
