Tigers Make it Seven Straight

Box Score

Atlanta, GA. – No. 18 Pacific men's soccer team made it seven wins in a row after topping host Georgia State 2-1 on Sunday morning, bringing the Tigers to 8-2 and dropping the Panthers to 6-5 on the year.

The Tiger offense struggled to get much going from kickoff as the Panthers out-shot the visitors 4-0 in the first 15 minutes of action. Anthony Orendain made the Tiger's first shot of the day count when he netted his third goal of the season off an assist from Camden Riley to put the Orange and Black up 1-0 in the 23rd minute. Tristan Blackmon looked to add to the Tiger's lead when in the 30th minute he fired off a promising shot, but it was blocked by a Panther defender.

57 seconds into the second half Julio Cervantes increased the Tiger lead off an assist from Spencer Vue, giving the senior a team-high five goals on the year. The Panthers were able to answer back in the 61st minute when Max Hemmings got one past goalie Mateo Gomez to make it 2-1. The defense did the rest in holding Georgia State scoreless in the final 29 minutes of play, allowing the Tigers to walk off the field with their seventh-straight victory.

'Keeper Gomez was great in earning his first career win against Georgia State, logging two saves on ten shots. With Cervantes' early second-half goal, he has now increased his point streak to seven-straight games in addition to four-straight games with a goal.

The Tigers return home next Sunday as they host Saint Mary's for their first conference matchup of the season. Live stats and video will be available.
