Box Score Des Moines, Iowa - The Pacific women's soccer team fell 2-1 to the Drake Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon, as the hosts eked out an overtime victory. The Tigers fall to 0-2 on the season while Drake now sits at 1-1.
The Tigers got to work offensively immediately, as the Orange and Black fired the first four shots of the contest. In the 21st minute, the Tigers fifth shot of the match found the back of the net as freshman Hannah Stammer scored her first career goal on her first career strike. Stammer took a pass from fellow freshman Ashley Arnett and broke free from the defense to push it past Drake goalkeeper Brooke Dennis, giving the Tigers the early advantage.
In the waning minutes before the halftime intermission, Kasey Hurt fired a shot in the box that was blocked. Drake teammate Hannah Wilder scooped of the deflection and bested Pacific goalkeeper Melissa Ma to level the score at 1-1. At the halftime break, Drake held a 10-5 advantage in shots. Ma had two saves for Pacific in the first 45 minutes of action.
The second half went scoreless as the Tigers were held without a shot attempt until the 82nd minute. A shot on goal by Samia Adam in the 82nd was corralled by Dennis and Hannah Terry saw her shot blocked in the final seconds of regulation.
Drake took victory in the extra period, as Alyssa Brand's 91st minute shot from midfield was initially blocked by Ma who saw the ball eventually spin into the net to seal the game for the hosts.
In total, seven different Tigers registered shot attempts and Ma finished with seven saves.
Pacific will return to Knoles Field for the home regular season opener on Friday, August 28th. The match is slated for a 7:00 pm kickoff. Live streaming video will also be available via TheW.tv.
