Li Named WCC Player Of The Week

Box Score

Stockton, Calif. - Pacific freshman guard Ameela Li was named West Coast Conference women's basketball Player of the Week Monday after helping the Tigers to two wins last week.

The Piedmont, Calif., native was asked to step up and fill in at starting point guard starting last Saturday and responded with double-figure scoring and a new career-high in assists in each game. She totaled 22 assists in three starts, including 16 in two games last week. In last week's games she averaged 11.0 points and shot .588 from the field.

In Li's first career start, against San Jose State on Saturday, she set career-highs in points (12), rebounds (8) and assists (6) in the Tigers' 81-69 win. On Tuesday, she tied her point total with 12, and set a new assist mark with seven while shooting 56 percent in Pacific's 74-61 win over Stanislaus State.

In the third start, she set yet another new career-high with nine assists, scoring 10 points to be a dime short of a double-double. She connected on 63 percent from the field and grabbing a career-best four steals.

The Tigers are 7-4 after three straight victories and open up WCC play Monday at 6 p.m. in Santa Clara before returning to the Alex G. Spanos Center for a 5 p.m. tip-off on Wednesday against San Francisco. Every West Coast Conference game will be available for free, in HD, on TheW.tv.
