Eugene, Ore. - On a tough day at the course at the NCAA Regionals, junior Byron Meth remained in contention for a spot in the NCAA Championships as he came into the clubhouse third among individuals after a +4, 74 on Friday, May 16. Over two days, Meth is tied for 14th overall after going three-over in two rounds. He trails the top individual at the tournament by three strokes as Oregon State's David Fink finished the round one-under and overall at even-par.
Facing tough conditions at the Eugene Country Club course, Meth was scattered throughout his round as the junior fired off a trio of birdies but suffered from six bogies that included a double-bogey on the par-4, 14th. The 14th had been a nemesis of Meth throughout his play in Eugene as he suffered his lone blemish on the hole on Thursday morning with a bogey. After a rocky strech of nine holes, Meth was able to recover at he neared the clubhouse with a birdie on the par-5, 545 yard, sixth.
Meth will have a chance to rebound and make a run at a berth in the NCAA Championships on Saturday, May 17 with a final round of play at the regional site. The top individual and the top-five teams advance to the championships in Hutchinson, Kan. from May 23-28.
