Bryan, Texas - Taking part in one of the toughest tournaments outside of an NCAA Regional and in a field that features eight of the top-50 teams in the country, the Tiger golf team finished the opening day of play in 12 place overall on Saturday, April 5. The Tigers finished the day at +51, completing their day with a +11, 299 in round two at the Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas. LSU leads the tournament heading into the final day by one stroke over the host Aggies of Texas A&M after posting a +15 for day as a team.
Individually, the Tigers struggled to find their way early in the tournament as all five Tigers' posted rounds over par with junior Byron Meth coming in at +7, 78 to lead the way. The round was the worst 18-hole performance for the third-year ace as he ended the opening round in tie for 46th. Despite the rough go around the course in round one, Meth was able to shake off his start and rebound with one of the top round of the tournament in round two as he carded a -3, 68 to rocket up the leaderboard in the afternoon. Behind six birdies in the second round of play, Meth played his way into the top 10 of the tournament as he ended Saturday's play in a tie for 8th place at three-over par. Meth and the rest of the field are chasing the No. 8 ranked golfer in the nation as Cal's Brandon Hagy completed play at -3 to take a two shot lead over his closest competition.
The Tigers will compelte play at the Aggie Invitational on Sunday, April 6 with a final 18 holes of play at the Traditions Golf Club. The field tees off beginning at 7:30 am EST while Pacific goes off last beginning at 8:40 am EST.
