Bremerton, Wash. - Entering the day at the top of the standings, junior Byron Meth held steady in first place at the WCC Championships on Tuesday, April 15. The Tiger ace completed his second day of play at one-under with a 71 to push his two day total to -7. He remains in first by two strokes as San Diego's Grant Forrest came back to the clubhouse at -5 after hooting a -4, 68 on the day.
With conditions toughening on the second day of action at the championships due to precipitation, the Tigers as a team struggled to find the rhythm they used on day one as Pacific fell to fourth in the standings and four shots off the lead at five-over par. However, as the team dropped behind Saint Mary's for the team championship, Pacific's junior positioned themselves for an individual run at the crown led by Meth's second round in the red at Golf Mountain Golf Course. On the course for the second time, Meth put together another solid round as he intermixed four birdies with three bogies. The four birdies on the day gave him 10 for the tournament as he scored for the second-time on holes 6, 14, and 16 while adding a birdie on 17.
Not to be outdone, junior Drew Bender came on strong on day two as he shot up the leaderboard with a -3, 69 to slide into a tie for 4th overall. Bender used three big red numbers on the front nine to do the bulk of his damage on the day as the third-year golfer eagled the par-4, 2nd to set up his round. Overall, Bender finished the day at two-under for the tournament, five strokes back of Meth.
With one round to play, the Tiger juniors will look to lead the team back up the standings on Wednesday, April 16, while contending for the individual title. Meth will make his championship push beginning at 9:30 am while Bender tees-off 10 minutes earlier at 9:20 am.
