Creswell, Ore. - Playing the first two rounds at the 2014 Oregon Duck Invitational, junior Byron Meth has put himself in the drivers seat for the home stretch as the third-year golfer finished in first place on Monday, Mar. 24. Through 36-holes, Meth held steady as he carded a three-under, 141, to lead the day by one stroke.
Meth kicked off his opening day with a bang as he posted a -3, 69 to start the morning. Throughout the round, Meth went on a tear over the back-nine as he posted four birdies to bolster his round. On the front nine, Meth saw his only two blemishes of the round as he bogied twice while adding a fifth birdie. His 69 tied for the round's top score with Minnesota's Jose Mendez as the two took the top spot over the first round of action.
With one round down, Meth headed back to the course for his final 18 holes of the day as the junior held strong as the field around him began to slip in tough playing conditions. After battling through a sting a bogies to start his round, Meth turned his afternoon around with a pair of birdies on holes one and two to bring his second round score to an even-par 72. The score kept Meth at the top of the leaderboard as Mendez slipt one stroke back with a +1, 73.
As a team, the Tigers finished the day in a tie for 13th overall as the team went 25-over for the first two rounds of action.
Meth will look for his first tournament title of the season on Tuesday, Mar. 25 as he and the rest of the Tigers hit the Emerald Valley Golf Club for the third round of action at 8:30 am.
