Kaua'i, Hawaii - Duplicating their round from the previous day, the Pacific golf team stayed put in the middle of the pack at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate after round two at the Wailua Golf Course on Thursday, Feb. 20. For the day the Tigers posted a second 293, +5 to end the first 36-holes at +10 and in 10th place. The overall leader remained No. 4 Cal which increased its tournament advantage by to nine strokes over Texas A&M and BYU after ending the second round at -16 as a team.
Individually, the Tigers were again led by their junior Byron Meth as the third-year standout fired off a second -1, 71 to keep himself in contention. Meth picked up the pace on his round from day one as his agressive play resulted in five birdies on the day. The junior started hot on the day as he tallied three of his five red numbers on the backside of the course after starting his round on hole 10. He cooled off slightly on the front nine posting two birdies and three bogies, but closed strong with a birdie on No. 9 for the second-straight day. Meth has birdied No. 1, 9, and 10 in each of his first two rounds of action.
Behind Meth, sophomore Matt Lee came back from his opening round +3 to go just one-over at 73 in round two. Lee tallied four birdies on his day, taking advantage of all three par-5's on the course to pick up his scoring. Sophomore SeungJae Maeng finished an up-and-down round in much the same fashion as he did the day prior as he grabbed five birdies for the second day in a row to lead the team in scoring holes.
Pacific will finish play at the intercollegiate on Friday, Feb. 21 with a final 18 holes at the Wailua Golf Course. The Tigers and the rest of the field will begin play at 8:00 am HST.
