Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. - Finishing their stay in Southern California at the Farms Collegiate Invitational, the Pacific golf team took home a top-5 finish as the Tigers ended the two-day tournament in 4th place overall on Tuesday, Feb. 11. The fourth place finish matched the team's top finish of the season after ending the tournament at +20 overall.
On the day, the Tigers were led by junior Byron Meth who posted his second-straight red number on the scorecard with a -1, 71 in round three. Just as he did in round two, Meth posted five birdies in the round including draining a putt on the long 18th to put him under-par on the day. For the tournament, Meth grabbed his first top-5 finish of the season as he ended play in a tie for fourth place after posting a +1 overall. His -1, 71 on day two tied for the third-best round of the day as he helped the Tigers' hold on to their fourth place spot, just ahead of Duke.
As a team, the Tigers shot a +7, 295 in round three of the invitational to take the top-5 finish. The overall champ proved to be the tournament host as San Diego finished its invitational as the lone team under-par at -4. The Toreros also took the individual championship as Grant Forrest won on the first playoff hole of the day after ending the round at -6 overall for the tournament alongside of Kennesaw State's Jimmy Beck.
Outside of Meth, the Tigers picked up a strong showing in round three from sophomore Matt Lee, who shook off a rough first day to post an even-par, 72. Junior Drew Bender was able to secure a top-20 finish despite a tough day on the course in round three as he finished at +7 overall and in a tie for 20th.
The Tigers are back on the course on Feb. 19-21 when they play at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Honolulu, Hawaii.
