San Jose, Calif. – The Pacific women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision at San Jose State on Friday, September 20. Pacific dropped to 1-5-2 on the season, while San Jose State improved to 1-7-0. 

The Tigers fell behind 1-0 at the 1:46 mark, after Lupita Estrada scored after a scramble in front of the net. Pacific evened it up on goal by junior Mirella Mattos from 18 yards out going to the right on the near side of goalkeeper Zoe Makrigiannis after a pass from sophomore Zarette Munoz-Aguilar. The match went to the break even at 1-1. The Tigers outshot the Spartans 9-7 in first 45 minutes.

Pacific once again gave up an early goal to start the second half, as Kareli Rodriguez scored on a header with just :36 seconds expired.  Senior Maricela Padilla evened it again for the Tigers, scoring from five yards out after an outstanding pass from freshman Alex Hussar at 49:45. The Spartans pulled ahead for good after a penalty kick was awarded in the box. Cheryl Kute put it past Tiger goalkeeper Tashia Long on the penalty at 62:19. Padilla just missed evening up the contest with 1:42 remaining, as her shot was a bit over the crossbar. 

With a 4-3 advantage in second half shots, Pacific had a 13-10 edge for the match and had two more corners than SJSU (5-3). Long had four saves. 

Pacific is next in action with a home match against Sacramento State on Sunday, September 22 at 1:00 p.m.
