Bremerton, Wash. - With final round action at the Kikkor Husky Invitational complete, the Pacific golf team closed out their opening tournament of the new season in 14th place on Tuesday, Sept. 17. Pacific shot a 297 on the last day of play to finish at +31 for the tournament overall. The host Huskies defended their championship at their home course by finishing as the only team under-par in the standings.
Individually, the Tigers were led by junior Eric Sugimoto who took home a top-20 finish after posting a +1 for the three-round tournament. Sugimoto went +2, 74 over the final 18-holes of action to finish second on the team for the day. The final round leader for the Tigers' proved to be its newest member as sophomore transfer Matt Lee turned in his best round of the tournament with a +1, 73. Lee got rolling late as the first-year Tiger tallied a trio of birdies over the final six holes of play to shake off a rocky opening to his day.
The overall winner for the tournament came from Washington as well as Cheng-Tsung Pan increased his first day lead over the final 18-holes to run away with the win. Pan went five-under for the day and 11-under for the tournament to claim the victory.
Pacific is back in action on Oct. 6-7 as the team travels to West Point to take part in the Stars and Stripes Invitational. The tournament is hosted by Army at the West Point Golf Course in New York.
