Bandon, Ore. - Playing against the field of 95 that includes the No. 1 player in the nation, sophomore Byron Meth put himself in position to win his first individual title as the second-year golfer leads after day two of the Bandon Dunes Championship. Dominating a difficult course, Meth fired off the tournament's best round to date as he carded a -4, 68, to put his name atop the leaderboard. Meth holds a one-shot lead heading into the final round of play at the championships on Wednesday after Fresno State's Troix Tonkham came in at -3 after a second day total of 71.
Just as he did the day prior, Meth started his round on fire as he carded five-birdies over the course's first nine holes. In the first nine, Meth took advantage of both par-5's to get ahead of the field while he used strong iron play on a pair of par-4's and the par-3 second hole to tally his scoring numbers. On the back-nine, Meth gave back two strokes early around the turn, but after settling back into his groove, grabbed his sixth and final birdie of the round on the par-5 15th. Throughout his two days, Meth has battled tough conditions and an even tougher course as the sophomore is just one of just six players to finish two rounds under par at the Old MacDonald Course.
As a team, the Tigers rebounded from a rough first day with a solid showing on Saturday morning as Pacific finished the day with a +6, 294. As a team, the Tigers sit in 13th at +23, 22-strokes behind the tournament leaders, Colorado.
