Fresno, Calif. - Ending their stay in Fresno and finishing their first of two tournaments on the week, the Pacific golf team posted an 11th place finish at the Fresno Lexus Classic after posting a +9, 369 in the final round on Tuesday, Mar. 5. The Tigers ended the tournament at +19 after posting a 1099 through the three rounds to finish near the middle of the 17-team pack. Overall, the tournament proved to be no contest at the top as the No. 1 ranked Cal Bears dominated the Belmont Country Club course to post a 1037, -43 team score, laping the field by 37-strokes.
Individually, sophomore Byron Meth finished at the top of the standings for the Tigers, as he did on day one, after posting a +1, 73 in round three. In the final round, Meth put together an up-and-down round, balancing four bogies with a trio of birdies over the final nine holes of play. Overall, the sophomore completed his tournament in a tie for 17th as he shot, -2 for the two-day event. For the day, the Tigers saw sophomore Eric Sugimoto and senior Alex Edfort post the top individual rounds as the duo each carded -1, 71's for round-three. Overall, both Tigers finished in a tie for 35th after scoring +3, 219 over the three-rounds. The individual title at the tournament went to Cal's Michael Kim as the No. 2 golfer in the country beat out a pair of his teammates by tallying a -16, 200 during the event.
Pacific gets right back into action at the end of the week when the Tigers head to the Bandon Dunes Championships in Bandon, Ore. on Friday, Mar. 8. The tournament will last for three days with rounds ending on Sunday, Mar. 10.
