Tigers Get Late Goal To Draw With San Francisco

Stockton, Calif. – The Pacific women's soccer team scored in the 85th minute of regulation to tie the game at 1-1 and ended up with a draw against San Francisco on Friday, October 18. The Tigers moved to 2-8-3 overall, 1-1-1 in West Coast Conference action. USF improved to 5-7-3, 0-3-1 in WCC play.

"Tonight was a very hard fought match and I'm proud of our effort," said Head Coach Keith Coleman. "Zarette scored on an amazing shot and Tashia played a great game in goal for us. To score late and salvage a point in the WCC standings was big for the program."


The teams were in even in shots in the first half at 5-5, though the Tigers held the ball on the offensive end majority of the first 45 minutes. Junior Mirella Mattos had a pair of shots in the first seven minutes, narrowly missing out on giving the Tigers the early lead. The Dons scored at the 32:22 mark, on a header by Alex Alugas. Jaciara Mello was credited with an assist, as her shot bounded back to Alugas after hitting the crossbar. Senior Maricela Padilla had a pair of shots late in the half, along with a header attempt by sophomore Shayda Ansari, but the Tigers trailed 1-0 at the break.

The Tigers held a 9-6 edge in second half shots in the second half, evening it with their ninth and final shot of the second 45 minutes. Sophomore Zarette Munoz-Aguilar took a free kick from 40 yards out after a USF foul and found the top right corner of the net to even the score at 1-1 with just 5:47 left to play. It was Munoz-Aguilar's first goal of the year. Neither team scored the rest of the way to send the game into overtime.

Pacific had a pair of shots in the first overtime, but came up empty in both attempts. The Tigers were outshot 4-1 in the second overtime period, with senior goalkeeper Tashia Long making a big save on a shot by USF's Mackenzie Kreiser in the 107th minute. Long ended up with five saves in the match. 

For the match, the Tigers outshot the Dons 17-16 and held a 5-3 corner kick advantage. 

The Tigers are next in action against No. 14 Santa Clara on Sunday, October 20 at 1:00 p.m.
