Pacific Shuts Out Oregon, 1-0

Box Score

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's soccer team defeated Oregon 1-0 in the first ever night match at Knoles Field on Friday, September 7. With the victory the Tigers improved to 1-5 on the season, while Oregon fell to 3-2.

The Tigers' loan goal came at the 64:16 mark in the second half, when junior Maricela Padilla scored on a header off of a throw-in from senior Lauren Olvera. It was Padilla's second goal of the year and the first assist in 2012 for Olvera.

"We played extremely well tonight and had a lot of chances," said Tiger head coach Keith Coleman. "We're happy with the way things are coming together. Now that we have the first win out of the way, hopefully we can go on a bit of a roll."

"We've been practicing hard all year and it feels good to get that first win," said Padilla.

The Tigers controlled possession for most of the first half, though the Ducks held an 8-7 shots lead at the break. Oregon outshot Pacific 6-1 in the second half, but the Tigers capitalized on their only shot of the contest to get the victory. Junior goalkeeper Tashia Long had eight saves for Pacific, four in each half. In the first half she made two spectacular saves against one on one chances for the Ducks.

Oregon had a 4-3 edge in corners and a 14-8 advantage in shots.

The Tigers are next in action with a match at Colorado College on Friday, September 14 at 5:00 p.m. (PST).
