Meadow Vista, Calif. - Completing their regular season tournament play at the Winchester Classic, the Pacific golf team finished fifth on the final day of play on Sunday, April 22. The tournament was the Tigers' final tune up before heading out for the Big West Championship tournament. Holding strong at the top from day two, Fresno State took the tournament championship as the Bulldogs posted a +10, 874 over the three day tournament to beat the field by 13 strokes.
Individually, freshman Byron Meth paced the Tigers as he ended his stay in Meadow Vista with a top-five finish. The freshman posted a final round 71 to move to +3 overall on the tournament, three strokes off the championship pace. Idaho's Jarred Bossio came from one place back to start the final day to capture the tournament championship as he was able to outlast the competition despite shooting a +2, 74 over the final 18 holes of play. Bossio finished the tournament at even par, one stroke better than a pair of rivals.
The Tigers will be back in action on Monday, April 30 when they travel to Mission Viejo, Calif. to take part in the Big West Championship tournament. The conference championships will be played at the PGA West Mountain Course with the nine Big West teams squaring off for the right to go to the NCAA Championships. Pacific finished secod at each of the last three championships, but advanced to the NCAA Championships as an at large bid in 2011.
