Fresno, Calif. - Beginning the day in a tie for seventh overall, the Pacific golf team made a move for the top at the Fresno State Lexus Classic on Tuesday, March 6. The Tigers pushed their way to just off the medal stand at the tournament as Pacific took home its second-straight fourth place finish in as many Spring tournaments as they posted a +19, 1099 for the three-round event. Oregon State took home the team title at +7, 1087, six strokes clear of the rest of the field.
Individually, junior Alex Edfort came up just short of his first individual title of the season as the Somerset, NJ native took home the silver medal at the Classic. Entering the day in a tie for fourth overall, Edfort, held steady while others in front of him faltered to fire a +1, 73 on the final day and finish at -3, 213 for the tournament. Edfort found himself four strokes back of the tournament champion, Alex Ching of San Diego, who came in at -7, 209 by shooting a -3, 69, the low round of the day.
Following his teammates path on the course, freshman Byron Meth kept himself in contention throughout the day with his own +1, 73 over the final 18-holes to pick up his first top-5 finish. The freshman ended his tournament in a tie for fourth overall at -1, 215, two strokes back of Edfort and six strokes off the lead. Edfort and Meth were two of just six golfers in the field to finish in the red and under par.
The Tigers will next be on the course at the Bandon Dunes Championship in Bandon, Ore. from March 16-17.
