Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. - The Pacific men's golf team is tied for ninth place after the second round of the NCAA West Regional at the Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. on Friday, May 20.
As a team, the Tigers improved their score nine strokes from Thursday's first round, shooting a one-under par 287 in Friday's second round. Pacific is still in contention for a spot at the NCAA Championship in Stillwater, Okla., as the team is just three strokes out of fifth place and a spot to advance. The top five teams from each region and the top individual from teams not advancing, are selected to advance to the finals at Karsten Creek Golf Club.
"We really got off to a great start today and hung on at the end," said head coach Brandon Goethals. "I'm really proud of my guys for fighting so hard for every shot. It's going to be a great finish tomorrow for those coveted National Championship spots and I'm excited were in the mix."
Senior T.J. Bordeaux (Tacoma, Wash.) shot a blistering 68 (-4) in the second round, to sit in a tie for fifth place individually. Bordeaux is at 142 (-2) for the first two rounds. He is six shots behind UCLA's Patrick Cantlay, who leads the tournament with a two-round score of 136.
Senior Alex Johnson (Tucson, Ariz.) is tied for 33rd overall, after shooting a two-over par 74 in Friday's second round. He has a two day score of 147. Sophomore Alex Edfort (Somerset, N.J.) and senior Patrick Kucich (Stockton, Calif.) are both tied at 42nd with two round totals of 149. Junior Danny Garcia (Stockton, Calif.) rounded out the Tiger scoring in 65th, with a 158.
The Tigers are back in action with the final round on Saturday morning, teeing off at 8:20 a.m.
