Tigers Come Up Short Against No. 42 Long Beach State

April 16, 2011

Stockton, Calif. -

Though the Tigers fought hard, Pacific came up short of the win against No. 42 Long Beach State with a final score of 5-2.  The Tigers now 8-9, 4-2 at home, and 4-3 in conference, competed against Long Beach State with a strategy that complemented the Tigers' skills, but didn't earn them the match win overall.

Senior Jenifer Widjaja produced two wins for the Tigers today.  With partner Julia Hansen, they defeated Long Beach duo Dallara and Malenovska 8-4.  In Widjaja's singles match, she confidently beat her opponent in two sets, 6-3, 6-3.

Another victory for the Tigers was by freshman Susan Te who competed in the No. 6 spot against the 49ers and defeated opponent Cantlay 6-4, 6-2 to get the Tiger's their second point of the match.

After the match, Coach Chiene remarked, "I was proud of the way we competed today against the best team in our conference and #42 in the ITA college rankings. We were not intimidated and played to win. We were in position to win with the two remaining matches on the court when the match was at 2-3. We unfortunately let those two get away from us.  This match however should give us more confidence to finish out the season.  We will learn from our mistakes and get better by the time we play the Conference Championships in two weeks."

Sunday, April 17th, the Tigers will have their last home match against University of Nevada.  Come out and support the Pacific Tigers.
