Tempe, Ariz. -
The Pacific Tigers played at the peak of their game in Tempe, Arizona and were able to earn a match score of 6-1. The games reflected the Tigers' abilities to adapt to their new surroundings and defeat a team on the Arizona State courts, which they will play on again tomorrow. Some of the games today however were very close, however the ladies were able to remain composed and manage the win.
Senior Olga Gumenyuk had additional pressure against NAU with both of her matches being deciding matches to secure the team's win with a score of 6-1; but she was able to utilize her abilities and defeat her opponents in singles as well as doubles, with partner freshman, Susan Te.
Coach Chiene was very pleased with the victory and when asked about the match he stated, "Overall we played well today. We were more mentally tough than NAU was. We handled the adversity that came our way better than they did. It wil help us for tomorrow's match against #20 ASU as well as the match today was played on ASU's courts which helps us develop our timing for the courts. Our goal is to get better every day. Julia was ill with flu like symptons, but gutted out a win anyway."
