Playing on the road in Long Beach, Calif. to start Big West Conference play, the Pacific women's tennis team suffered through a rain filled day en route to dropping a 4-1 match to the 49ers on Saturday, February 27. The loss dropped the Tigers to 3-7 on the year and 0-1 in Big West play.
Scheduled to start at 11:00 am, the Tigers suffered through three rain delays throughout the day before finally kicking off the match nearly three and a half hours late due to the wet court conditions. After starting late, the two teams took to the court to play their singles matches from which the 49ers took home the match with four wins at No. 2 through No. 5 singles to capture the match.
The lone Tiger to take home a win on the day was junior Jenifer Widjaja (Sao Paulo, Brazil) as the No. 122 ranked player defeated Anais Dallara in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. The win was her seventh of the season at No. 1 singles in dual match play. Freshman Julia Hansen (Hamburg, Germany) suffered a tough loss at No. 3 singles for Pacific, dropping a the final two sets of her match, 6-2, 6-3, after taking the opening set, 3-6.
The Tigers will be back in action on Sunday, February 28 in Riverside, Calif. as they take on the Highlanders of UC Riverside in Big West action. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am.
