Tigers Cruise To 89-52 Victory Over Cal State Stanislaus

Stockton, Calif. - Behind a season best shooting night from the field, the Pacific men's basketball team cruised to an 89-52 victory over Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday, Dec. 11. The Tigers improved to 5-4 on the season, while the Warriors dropped to 2-5.

"We really passed the ball well, we shared the ball and we had a lot of guys participate in our scoring," said head coach Bob Thomason. "It was a feel good game tonight."

The Tigers took a 16-8 lead in the opening four minutes, as senior Demetrece Young (Oklahoma City, Okla.) hit a pair of treys for eight points in the run. After a basket by the Warriors, took another leap ahead, using a 22-4 run to gain a 38-14 advantage with seven minutes to play in the half. Senior Pat Eveland (San Diego, Calif.) scored seven points and sophomore Allen Huddleston (Merced, Calif.) hit a pair of three-pointers for six points in the run. The Warriors cut it back to 40-19, but Pacific scored on another three from Young and a fade-away jumper by Eveland to take a 45-19 halftime lead. It was the highest first half point total of the season for the Tigers.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Cal State Stanislaus cut the Pacific lead to 22 (51-29), but the Tigers used a 16-5 run to put the lead at 33 (67-34) with 10:28 to play. Young scored six points, while freshman Khalil Kelley (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) scored his first points as a Tiger in the run. The Tigers pushed the lead to as much as 38 (86-48) with 3:47 to play, before finishing with a 37 point win.

Among the several career and season highs set in the game, Young led the Tigers with 25 points, Huddleston had a career high with 17 points and Eveland had a season-high 15 points. Kelley ended up with nine points on 4-of-4 shooting from the field. Sophomore Jordan Turner (Oakland, Calif.) scored the first basket of his career for the Tigers. In making 33 of 55 shots from the field, the Tigers shot 60 percent from the field. Pacific outscored the Warriors 20-7 in points of turnovers.

The Tigers are next in action with a home game against Santa Clara on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the Spanos Center.
