Fullerton, Calif. - Senior hitter Svenja Engelhardt paced Pacific with 14 kills on 34 attempts, hitting .294, to go with a pair of service aces. However, the Tigers muster only a .073 hitting percentage with 23 attack errors.
Junior libero Rebekah Torres pulled out 16 digs, while junior outside hitter Samantha Misa chipped in 11 digs. Hannah Clancy, the Tigers' sophomore setter, added seven digs to go with her 23 assists. Freshman middle blocker Jennifer Sanders recorded six kills and led the Tigers with five blocks, including one solo.
Fullerton connected at a .223 clip for the match, led by Torrie Brown's 13 kills and Erin Saddler's 12. Leah Maurer added eight kills on a .467 percentage, while Cami Croteau and Genie Francisco led the Titans with 11 digs each.
Pacific led set one early, 8-4, behind four kills from Sanders, but the Titans whittled the lead away to tie the set 10-10. The Tigers held a 14-13 advantage, but Fullerton reeled off five consecutive points aided by a pair of kills from Erin Saddler.
Back-to-back service aces from Engelhardt pulled Pacific to within one at 18-17, but the Tigers would get no closer as the Titans ended with a 7-2 run, capped by a kill from Saddler.
The Tigers also held a lead midway through set two, as Engelhardt posted four early kills for a 15-14 advantage. But the Titans' Leah Maurer started a 11-1 run with a pair of kills before Croteau capped the action with a service ace for a 25-16 margin. The Titans recorded a side-out percentage of .700 to keep the Pacific offense from finding its rhythm.
Set three was tied nine, before Fullerton struck with three-straight points. The Titans maintained a comfortable margin until the Tigers made a final run. Down 24-19, Pacific fended off match point for three consecutive serves before the Titans closed the match 25-22.
Pacific is back in action on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Long Beach State before returning home to the Alex G. Spanos Center on Friday, Oct. 15 against UC Santa Barbara.
